A Wish for a Well

Prospect's 5th grade students and EcoPanthers are working on a service learning project, A Wish for a Well. 5th graders were inspired to take action in the fight against the water crisis in South Sudan after reading the Global Read Aloud book, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. This project supports the charity Water for South Sudan through the Iron Giraffe Challenge.

The 2018 Iron Giraffe Challenge calls on schools to each raise a minimum of $1,000, with a goal to raise $150,000 total. The IGC has grown every year, so we are confident that you can help us reach, or even surpass, this goal. All participating schools will be recognized on the WFSS website, and all who complete the challenge will receive a WFSS poster and be entered in a drawing to win different prizes, including Skype calls with Linda Sue Park.

Here is a link to Prospect's donation page, created by Becky Koziel, which will inform you about the goal of our project. Through this page, families are given the opportunity to spread awareness and make online donations. In the interest of student safety, please do not include children's first names on the donor line if you are planning on donating. For example, we would prefer "The Smith Family" to "Jane Smith" if Jane is a Prospect Student. We are accepting cash donations at school as well.

Additionally, our students are busy making informational brochures that will eventually come home to be shared with family, friends, businesses, etc. We are hopeful the students will be ready to share these before Winter Break. Feel free to share the brochures and the link below on social media to help spread awareness and help us to reach our goal.

Thank you so much for supporting this cause!

A New School Year and a New Baby!

Prospect teachers and staff are busy getting ready to start the 2017 school year! We are excited to see the students come in and visit the library! Things will be just a bit different at the beginning of the year because Mrs. Swanson is taking a maternity leave to stay home with her baby until November.  The newest member of the Swanson family is Tessa Elizabeth! She was born on July 23, right on time, the day before her due date. The Swansons are all doing well and are thrilled with their new baby.

While Mrs. Swanson is at home, the Prospect Library will be in great hands with Mrs. Reinhardt, the library assistant, and Teacher-Librarian Mrs. Miks! Mrs. Miks was the MRC Director at Monroe School for many years before she retired in 2015. We know Prospect students will enjoy learning with her and will make her feel welcome.

District Battle of the Books

This afternoon, Prospect competed in the District Battle of the Books against the other six elementary schools in our district. The team that represented Prospect earned the most points during Prospect's Battle of the Books club. Prospect's team ended up winning second place! Way to go!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Battle this year, and especially the families and students that came to support our team at the District Battle tonight!

Love Your Library 2017

Looking for a great way to make a lasting contribution to Prospect School? Donate a book to the Prospect Library. Last year, we had 36 books donated to our library through Love Your Library! (Here they are in our catalog!) Here's what you need to know:

  • Fill out this form and return it by Friday, Feb. 10 with a check or cash for $14.00 per book.
  • On Feb. 14, we will take your child to the library to select a new book to donate to the library.
  • Your child’s name and a school photograph of your child will be placed in the front of the book.
  • Your child can be the first one to check out the book if they choose.
  • It’s that simple!
  • See this booklist for some of the books students can donate. Students can choose their book ahead of time or pick from the books on a table in the MRC.

Thank you for considering a donation!
If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Swanson at rswanson@d181.org.
